Could you introduce yourself?!
Hi! My name is Ciara Gleeson and I am a CORU-registered Chartered Physiotherapist.

What / where did you study?
I went to primary school in Silvermines, and followed onto secondary school in St. Mary’s in Nenagh.

Two weeks after receiving my Leaving Cert results, I moved to Manchester to complete an Undergraduate Degree in Physiotherapy at the Manchester Metropolitan University where I achieved a Grade 1.1.

I have also completed many Graduate courses since completing my Degree, such as:
+ A Certificate in MSK Shockwave Therapy
+ A Whiplash Diagnosis and Treatment Course
+ A Dry Needling Introductory and Top 30 Course
+ A Sports Taping and Strapping Technique Course
+ A Kinesiology Taping Course
+ An IRFU Safe Level 2 First Aid Course

What kind of clinical experience do you have?
Alongside undertaking Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy work in the UK, I gained valuable Neurological and Respiratory Physiotherapy experience in Hospital Departments (such as Acute Stroke Units and Intensive Care Units) over there.

Whilst I liked working with patients in Hospitals, I knew I wanted to return home to work on my skills as a Sports and Private Practice Clinician.

Upon receiving my registration here in Ireland, I began working in a Private Practice Clinic in Clonmel, where I spent just under 2 years helping people of all ages, seeing a wide variety of injuries and conditions.

When Gold Standard advertised a job position in the Spring of 2024, I knew I had to apply as we share the same values and beliefs, and I am delighted to be here now!

I am also heavily involved in team sports and do a lot of pitch-side work for GAA teams in particular.
I've been the Tipperary Senior Camogie Team's Physiotherapist for the last 2 years while I was involved with the Tipperary Senior Footballers prior to that.
On the club front, I have worked with both Clonoulty-Rossmore's Senior Hurling and Camogie teams, as well as Burgess and Rockwell Rovers' first teams.

What are your professional interests / likes?
I have a keen interest in muscle and joint injuries / treatments. I have an especially big interest in the knee and ACL injuries, as I suffered with 2 complete ACL ruptures myself as a teenage camogie player so that’s where my interest in Physiotherapy really grew.

As someone who is very conversational, I thoroughly enjoy the social aspect of the job. I also enjoy working in a team environment, liaising with my
colleagues to ensure all possibilities are addressed. I also love that no two days are ever the same in my role here at Gold Standard.

What kind of personal interests do you have?
I love going to the gym, having a keen interest in strength training. As a female, when I was younger I had a fear of lifting weights. As I grew older and my knowledge expanded, I learned the benefits of strength training and I now really enjoy pushing myself to my limits and coming up with new challenges.
I also have a massive coffee addiction(!) so I make sure to fit in a coffee and walking date with my friends as often as possible.

Tell us something about yourself that others may not know?!
I am a very good cook, but not so great at the clean-up!!

Anything else you'd like to add?
I’m really excited to come back home and treat the locals around me. My personal aim is to see every patient become independent, providing them with knowledge and understanding so they can live independent lives, free from pain.

Also firmly believing that every Physiotherapy session for a patient should be special, please rest assured we will do everything we possibly can to ensure you are fully comfortable and enjoy the experience. Please also know, no matter how big or small the issue, we can get you back doing what you love to.

Sincerely yours,
Ciara
